KURT MADSEN CHAMPION AGAIN

What do you get when you cross a talented driver with  a tenacious owner? Why another championship. I know what your thinking, the 00 is Utahs' fastest car it should win, but that's not how it played out in 2007
June 2nd RMR. Spring is in the air and the opener is finally here. Kurt takes out the 00 for the first practice and the cylinder head blows. With the car out and receiving attention from owner Neils Hansen, Kurt borrows the Oregon 72 car from Terry Rennick who is in town with two cars and only one driver. Kurt qualified the car with the intention of running it all day, but during the first heat race the 72 was overheating.  By the end of the first heat race Neils had the head replaced and the car ready to go, so he jumps in the car and goes out and wins the 2nd heat. With the 00 repaired and the 72 overheating Kurt gets back in the 00 finishes the main with a respectable fourth in a 20 car field                                                                        July 14th Pocatello  The 00 was experiencing a high oil temp. issue and the several attempts to correct the problem throughout the day had yielded little success; however, my car the critters car #12 was looking good and running great. As the main event unfolded Kurt had worked his way to the front and was followed in hot pursuit by Scott Johnson driving the12. With 17 laps to go Kurt reported to Neils that the oil temp gauge was pinned and asked him if he wanted him to come off, Neils decision was to go for the win. I will tell you those final laps seemed to go on forever, Kurt doing what he could to save the motor, Neils risking a $10,000.00 motor for the win and the 12 just a few degrees away from its first win. YOU TALK EXCITING. The motor held and Kurt brought the car home in one piece and took the win.                                                           July 28thRMR Early in practice Kurt came off the track with a torn up ring and pinnion in the rear end. Days over right? think again Neils jumps into his truck and drives 60 miles home for parts while Kurt dives under the car and removes the damaged rear end in case Neils can get back in time. There wasnt' just racing on the track that day, Neils made it back in record time. He and kurt reassembled the car and drove to a 3rd place finish in the main.                                                                                                                         August 25thPocatello Not much to write home about today Kurt qualified 1st started last and ran out of laps taking 2nd to a strong running John Peterson from Boise.                                                         September22ndPocatello Last race of the season and one that brought out the gremlins, my car arrived with no oil pressure, Dan Madsen #4 who was in the hunt for a second consecutive championship showed up with no ignition and the 00 decided to start the Off season  early by having the engine let go. Kurt managed to borrow a visiting Boise car and Dan, determined to race that race, worked like a trooper pulling parts off my 2000lb paper weight and replacing near everything that had to do with spark on  his. Kurt made it through with a last place finish and Dan who got going for the main was unable to score any points for qualifying or heats finished with a strong third place unfortunately missing his 2nd championship by just 27 points.                                                                                                                                           It never hurts to have a fast car but this championship was won by a team with gritty determination. Kurt is a talented driver but this title had as much  to do with what he did under the car as on the track .   Congratulations to Kurt and Neils of Thor Racing.
